New Delhi: India dropped down to 16th spot from 13th after the action of Day 8 in the ongoing Paris Paralympics 2024 on Thursday. Kapil Parmar’s bronze medal in men’s 60kg (J1)
category was country’s first success in blind judoka at the Summer Games.
This was also the only medal India accounted for on Thursday two days after recording the best medal tally in any edition of the Paralympics. The Asian nation has bagged 25 medals in total with five gold, nine silver and 11 bronze medals in the 19th edition of the Paralympics.
India will be again in action on Friday with medal up for grabs in a few para athletics events and one para powerlifting events. The Indian para canoers will kick off their campaigns with their heats with three athletes in action across categories.
Simran Sharma, who finished fourth in women’s 100m T12 event on Thursday, will continue to chase for a podium finish as she is scheduled to participate in the women’s 200m T12 heats. Dilip Gavit will start his round 1 in the men’s 400m in the combined categories of T45, T46, T47.
Dipesh Kumar (men’s javelin throw F54), Praveen Kumar (men’s high jump T44, T62, T64), Bhavanaben Chaudhary (women’s javelin throw F46), Soman Rana and Hokato Sema (men’s shot put F56, F57) will be in contention for medals in their respective events.
