New Delhi: Skipper Paul Stirling scripted history on Wednesday after he became the first-ever player from Ireland to cross the 10000 run-mark in international cricket. Stirling, who has been a consistent performer for the side, achieved the elusive record during the first ODI against West Indies in Dublin on May 21.

After the hosts were put into bat first in the opening match of the series, Stirling roared in style with a half-century and also completed the big milestone, which was more than a dream come true for the senior batter and the entire team. Stirling, unfortunately was unable to convert his fifty into a century as he got dismissed after scoring 54 runs off 64 deliveries which included 6 boundaries and 2 maximums.

97th player to reach the milestone

The right-handed opening batter reached the landmark after completing his 37th run in the clash. He also became the 97th cricketer in the history of the game to reach the milestone of 10000 international runs. Stirling struck his 57th international fifty setting the perfect base for the team in the opening game of the three-ODI series, which will be followed by as many T20Is.

The second in the list for most runs for Ireland is Andrew Balbirnie, who has scored 6017 runs across all the three formats. Stirling has achieved maximum success in the 50-over format followed by the T20Is and then the longest format, in which he has just played 8 Test matches. The batter has 14 centuries in ODIs and also one hundred in the shortest format.
