PBKS co-owner Preity Zinta shuts down troll over absurd question on ‘marrying’ Glenn Maxwell

New Delhi: Punjab Kings (PBKS) co-owner Preity Zinta gave a befitting reply to a troll during a Q&A session on X after being asked an absurd question about Australian cricketer Glenn Maxwell. Maxwell is currently part of the Punjab Kings squad in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 after being bought for Rs 4.2 crore in the mega auction last year.

On Tuesday, May 13, Zinta conducted a Q&A session on X when a fan came up with a ludicrous question for the Bollywood actress and PBKS co-owner. The fan asked Zinta if she felt Maxwell does not play well for her team Punjab Kings, because she didn’t marry the Australian all-rounder. The question took fans and Zinta by surprise, but the actress came up with a brilliant response.

“Mam Maxwell ki aapse shadi ni Hui isiliye vo aapko team se accha ni khelta tha? (Ma’am, Maxwell doesn’t play well for your team because you couldn’t marry him?),” the fan asked Zinta.

“Will you ask this question to the male team owners of all teams, or is this discrimination just towards the women? I never knew how difficult it is for women to survive in corporate setups until I got into cricket. I’m sure you asked this question out of humour, but I hope you can actually look at your question and understand what you are trying to say because if you really understand what you’re trying to say, it’s not pretty,” Zinta wrote, replying to the troll.

“I think I have earned my stripes by working very hard for the past 18 years so please give me the respect I deserve & stop with the gender bias. Thank you,” she added.

Zinta, a successful Bollywood actress, co-owns the IPL franchise Punjab Kings along with Ness Wadia, Mohit Burman and Karan Paul. She has been one of the faces of the franchise ever since the inception of the IPL in 2008 and has been among the most popular team owners in the league. She is often spotted supporting the Punjab Kings in the stands during their matches in the IPL.

Glenn Maxwell enjoying 3rd stint with PBKS

Maxwell, on the other hand, is currently enjoying his third stint with the Punjab Kings after being roped in by the franchise in the IPL 2025 mega auction last year. Maxwell enjoyed his best-ever stint for PBKS when he first joined the franchise in 2014. He ended up smashing 552 runs in 16 matches in his debut season for PBKS to power them to the top of the table in the league stage with 22 points after 14 matches.

However, they failed to lift the trophy. Maxwell spent 4 seasons at PBKS before joining Delhi Capitals for IPL 2018. He returned to the Punjab Kings for IPL 2020 after being bought by the franchise ahead of the season. However, he was released by the franchise the following season and joined Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), where he played till IPL 2024.

Maxwell has so far managed only 48 runs in 7 matches for Punjab Kings in the ongoing IPL 2025 and has not managed to live up to the expectations. He returned home after IPL 2025 was suspended last week due to the tensions between India and Pakistan, and it remains to be seen if he will return as the league is set to resume on Saturday, May 17.
