Premier League 2024/25: Crystal Palace and Leicester City secure three points

New Delhi: Matchday 14 of the Premier League started with two games on Tuesday night. Leicester City hosted West Ham, and Ipswich Town took on Crystal Palace at home during the mid-week fixture. Last weekend, Liverpool retained their spot at the top of the points table with a nine-point gap over second-placed Arsenal.

Ipswich had a dismal outing against Nottingham Forest the previous weekend, while Crystal Palace played a draw against Newcastle. Leicester City lost 4-1 against eighth-placed Brentford, while Arsenal routed West Ham with a 5-2 win at the London stadium.

Ipswich Town’s win against Tottenham Hotspur at the start of November has moved them clear of the bottom of the Premier League table. With the side struggling to get past the relegation part of the points table, their first half against Crystal Palace, who are currently just toeing the relegation line at 16th place, started much slower. The two teams failed to break the deadlock before the break.

Jean-Phillipe Mateta’s 59th-minute goal was enough for Palace to secure a win, taking home all three points from Portman Road. The hosts were lacking in the final third, with Liam Delap’s header and Dara O’Shea’s long-range shot coming close to threatening Dean Henderson’s posts. Palace were more clinical, with Mateta threatening the opposite box twice, as Eze provided him with a brilliant pass, which the striker utilized to the fullest, beating two players as he secured the win.

The game had created much buzz with Ruud van Nistelrooy’s appointment after Steve Cooper’s sacking. Jamie Vardy gave the Dutch manager the perfect start, scoring the first goal in just the second minute from kick-off with Bilal El Khannous. The 37-year-old perfect finish ensured Leicester were one up. At the break, the scorecard stayed 1-0, with the Foxes looking threatening.

Bilal El Khannous himself got on the scoresheet and gave Leicester their second goal of the evening after Kasey McAteer cut the ball back to the 20-year-old Morrocan. In the 90th minute, Paston Daka’s goal ensured that the Hammers were knocked out of the game despite a late effort from Niklas Fulkrug, who scored his first goal after coming to West Ham this season. The win ensures that Leicester are now 15th, a little above the relegation section.

Crystal Palace manages to win against Ipswich Town as Ruud van Nistelrooy starts on a winning note as Leicester CIty’s manager.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
