New Delhi: Manchester United have some serious issues to resolve in their style of play as one particular factor is truly affecting their results and this particular season. Ruben Amorim’s side’s defensive woes have been exposed yet again, as Bournemouth travelled to Old Trafford to face the Red Devils in the 17th matchday of Premier League. Despite the home side’s dominance from the beginning in terms of shots taken and threatening the opposition keeper, it was the Cherries who took the lead in the 29th minute of the game.
So how did they score the goal? Well, when a team is facing Manchester United, people can almost bet on the fact that they would concede a goal from a set-piece and that’s exactly what happened tonight at Old Trafford, leaving the home fans frustrated before the second half. On the right touchline, Ryan Christie took a dangerous free kick from out and curled it in the direction of the six-yard box.
Dean Huijsen met the ball after beating Joshua Zirkzee to it and buried it beyond the helpless United keeper, Andre Onana. The Cherries took a 1-0 lead at Old Trafford after the Dutch defender found the left side of the net.

It is becoming a routine to see United concede goals from free kicks and corners, as they have conceded an astounding 17 goals from set pieces in the league this year. Last week in the Manchester derby, City managed to score their goal thanks to a short corner taken by Kevin De Bruyne, who then put it back towards the penalty box where Josko Gvardiol managed to head it past Onana to score. It was a bad goal to concede if we consider how easily the Croatian defender leaped ovver the United defence and head it home.
Earlier in the beginning of the month, the Red Devils conceded yet another goal from corner, when they faced Nottingham Forest at home. It was the Forest defender Nikola Milenkovic who rose over Lisandro Martinez to force a header past the motionless Andre Onana and put the ball into the back of the net from a corner in the first minute. The Forest center-back scored his first goal for the team with a powerful header to expose United’s defensive problems during set-pieces.
