Manchester City vs Crystal Palace (IST 5:00 P.M.)
Manchester City will be welcoming Crystal Palace at Etihad as they hope to move up to fourth place in the Premier League standings. Palace wants to increase their winning streak in all competitions to eight games as the weekend’s action gets underway at the Etihad. Since Everton’s late goal at Selhurst Park on February 15, Oliver Glasner’s team has won four of their last five league games and hasn’t experienced a loss.
Palace has a history of crushing title-winning City teams, and now they want to upset a Pep Guardiola-led squad that is only vying for a Champions League spot. After drawing at Old Trafford last Sunday, City lost position in the race, and the top five will advance to Europe’s top club championship. But the Cityzens are only one point behind Chelsea and Newcastle, who are in fourth and fifth place, respectively.
Predicted lineups:
Manchester City (4-2-3-1): Ederson; Nunes, Dias, Khusanov, Gvardiol; Gonzalez, Gundogan; Savinho, Foden, Doku; Marmoush.
Crystal Palace (3-4-2-1): Henderson; Ward, Lerma, Richards; Munoz, Wharton, Hughes, Mitchell; Eze, Sarr; Mateta.
Prediction: MCI 3-1 CRY
Southampton vs Aston Villa (IST 7:30 P.M.)
Aston Villa take on relegated Southampton in an attempt to maintain their hopes of finishing in the top five of the Premier League. Villa has work to do if they want to advance at the cost of the exciting French team in their Champions League quarterfinal matchup with Paris Saint-Germain. The Villans must make up the 3-1 deficit at home the next week after Nuno Mendes’ score in stoppage time.
Tuesday’s second leg will surely be Unai Emery’s first priority, but domestic points are also crucial. Villa is now only two points behind Newcastle in fifth place and seventh in the table after three straight league victories. Last weekend, however, Southampton’s inevitable fate was confirmed. After a 3-1 loss to Spurs, the Saints were relegated in the earliest Premier League history. They still need two points from their remaining seven games to avoid being considered the worst team in the history of the league.
Nottingham Forest vs Everton (IST 7:30 P.M.)
Nottingham will be hosting Everton in a must-win game. After Arsenal’s thumping of Real Madrid, Nuno Espirito Santo’s team was given the happy news that fifth place would guarantee a spot in Europe’s top league the next season. However, the Tricky Trees are aiming higher as they remain comfortably in third place.
However, with teams like Manchester City, Chelsea, and Newcastle United pursuing them, the Midlands team cannot afford to be complacent in the final stretch. Forest has to get back to winning ways against Everton after losing to Aston Villa last weekend. Since David Moyes returned to the dugout, the Toffees have been hard to beat, but they have had trouble winning lately. They have little to play for between now and the end of the season, having lost one of their last six Premier League games and drawn five of the others.
Brighton vs Leicester (IST 7:30 P.M.)
Brighton & Hove Albion host relegation-bound Leicester City and they will be looking to end a three-game losing streak. The Seagulls were among the division’s top teams going into the March international break, but over the last two weeks, their chances of earning a spot in Europe for the upcoming campaign have diminished. They lost to Aston Villa and Crystal Palace in the A23 Derby after losing to Nottingham Forest on penalties to leave the FA Cup.
A month ago, Fabian Hurzeler’s team was seen as a dark horse for a top five finish; however, they are currently in ninth place, six points behind Newcastle in fifth. They could get back on track with a victory tonight, which they should expect to do against Leicester, who lost their ninth straight Premier League game without scoring on Monday night. Harvey Barnes, a former Leicester winger, gave Newcastle a 3-0 lead before halftime at King Power Stadium, and the team decided not to cause further suffering in the second half. For the past two months, Ruud van Nistelrooy’s team has been mired in 17 points and is on the verge of relegation.
Arsenal vs Brentford (IST 10:00 P.M.)
When Arsenal plays Brentford at the Emirates Stadium this Saturday, they have the opportunity to go closer to Premier League leaders Liverpool. The Gunners can put some light pressure on the Reds this weekend, but they are unlikely to pull off an incredible comeback as table-toppers Liverpool get closer to winning the championship. Arsenal will reduce the margin to eight points with a victory over Brentford, while Arne Slot’s team won’t play until Sunday at home against West Ham United.
Naturally, following their incredible 3-0 victory over Real Madrid in the middle of the week, Arsenal’s focus is still squarely on the Champions League. Wednesday is the date of the quarterfinals’ return leg, and despite their sizable lead, the Gunners cannot afford to be complacent going to the Spanish capital considering Los Blancos’ European record. With their fleeting dreams of qualifying for Europe all but gone, Brentford has relatively little left to play for between now and the end of the season. The Bees have only won one of their previous five Premier League games and have faltered in their recent attempts to finish in the Conference League or above.
Predicted lineups:
Arsenal (4-3-3): Raya; White, Saliba, Kiwior, Tierney; Nwaneri, Jorginho, Merino; Sterling, Trossard, Martinelli.
Brentford (4-2-3-1): Flekken; Roerslev, Collins, Van den Berg, Lewis-Potter; Norgaard, Janelt; Mbeumo, Damsgaard, Schade; Wissa.
Prediction: ARS 3-1 BRE
