New Delhi: One of New Zealand’s finest cricketers Martin Guptill has officially confirmed his retirement from international cricket. Guptill, aged 38, is considered as one of the best-ever batters the Black Caps have produced in this century. The stylish Kiwi player called it quits after serving his for almost 13 years from 2009, when he made his international debut.

Guptill represented New Zealand in 367 matches across all the three formats, scoring 23 international centuries and scripting numerous records especially in the white-ball format. In the T20I format, Guptill is the leading run-scorer for the Kiwis with 3531 runs in 122 games. In the ODI all-time list for the Black Caps, the 38-year-old is placed on the third position, behind Ross Taylor and Stephen Fleming.

Guptill first Kiwi player to score ton in debut match

After making his debut 15 years back, Guptill became the first player from New Zealand to smash a century in his first ODI match. He achieved this remarkable feat against the West Indies at the Eden Park. Apart from this, which was one of the highlights of his career, the New Zealander has smashed many more iconic performances with his 237 not out in the ODI World Cup quarterfinal against the West Indies being atop.

With the record-breaking knock, Guptill etched his name in the history books as he registered the highest individual score in a World Cup match and the first ODI double century for the Black Caps. Some of the other performances which highlighted his career was an unbeaten innings of 189 against England and another 180-run knock against the Proteas. Guptill has also scored two doubles hundreds in the shortest format of the game.

He last played for the national side in the year 2022. From the past two years, he did not feature in the scheme of things for the Black Caps.
