New Delhi: Vinesh Phogat has become the cynosure of all eyes at her village Babali in Haryana ever since her return home from the Paris Olympics 2024. Vinesh missed out on a medal at the Paris Olympics in a heartbreaking manner after getting disqualified for being overweight. However, the 29-year-old wrestler has been showered with immense love on her return.
Vinesh received a grand reception at the Delhi airport earlier this week after landing from Paris and was felicitated by the people of her village and the members of the ‘khap panchayat’ in a ceremony after reaching her home. She was showered with praise and gifts and also presented with a gold medal in what would have been a bitter-sweet moment for the wrestler.
After the overwhelming reception over the last couple of days, Vinesh celebrated the festival of Raksha Bandhan on Monday, August 19 with her brother. In a video shared by news agency IANS, Vinesh revealed the gift she received from her brother as she was seen holding a bundle of Rs 500 notes. The wrestler also pulled her brother’s leg over the gift.
“Mai ho gayi almost 30 saal ki, pichle saal bhi isne 500 rupaye diye the. Uske baad ye hai (cash bundle). Isne puri zindagi mai itna hi kamaya hai jo mere hisse mai aaya hai (I have turned almost 30. Last year too he gave me Rs 500. Now he has given me this much money, it’s all the money he has earned in his life. And all that money is now mine),” said Vinesh jokingly, pulling her brother’s leg.
