New Delhi: Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has committed his long-term future to the club by signing a new three-year contract extension. The Spaniard, who took over in December 2019 after Unai Emery’s departure has rejuvenated the Gunners leading them to consecutive second-place finishes in the Premier League.
This extension is a strong statement from the Arsenal hierarchy, reaffirming their belief that Arteta is the man to bring the Premier League trophy back to the Emirates. The 42-year-old has been a driving force behind Arsenal’s resurgence, instilling a winning mentality and developing a talented young squad.
Before joining Arsenal, Arteta worked as a coach under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, gaining valuable experience from one of the most successful managers in modern football. His time at City has undoubtedly influenced his coaching style which is characterised by a focus on possession, pressing, and attacking football.
Since taking over at Arsenal, Arteta has led the Gunners to significant progress both on and off the pitch. The club has qualified for the Champions League in two consecutive seasons and has also won the FA Cup under his management.
However, the 42-year-old is trying to lead the London team to their first top-flight championship since 2003–04, as they have placed second to Manchester City in the Premier League the last two seasons.
Arsenal is now in fourth place after three games this season. They won their opening two games against Wolves and Aston Villa before Brighton held them to a tie.

A former midfielder, Arteta himself made 150 appearances for the club during his playing career and has also captained the Gunners in his playing days. The club has shown great faith in him and is backing him firmly as he is the man to end their 20-year-long wait for a Premier League title.
Arteta has been a reckoning force in Arsenal’s revival and has built a team that has come close twice to winning the Premier League title. His extension of the contract is a major sign that he is determined to finish the job. Last year, many key players extended their contracts with the club, and now, seeing their manager do the same will keep them pushing towards the elusive title.
With his long-term future now sorted and him surviving a couple of testing years pretty well, he will now look to develop Gunners as a more dominating force. The next three years will be all about converting the whole struggle into a trophy haul and cementing his legacy.
