New Delhi: Rahul Dravid who recently ended his head coach stint with Team India after winning the T20 World Cup 2024 was offered the same amount of prize money ( INR 5 crores) as the rest of the team members but he rejected the offer and was paid the same amount (INR 2.5 crore) as the rest of coaching staff.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) rewarded a prize money of a whopping INR 125 crore for the Men in Blue after clinching their second T20 World Cup title. According to reports, each member of the squad and head coach Rahul Dravid received INR 5 crore, while the rest of the coaching staff received 2.5 crore each.
According to the report by Hindustan Times, Rahul Dravid requested BCCI to award him the same prize money as other coaches who also played a crucial role in helping Team India to win T20 World Cup title.
“Rahul wanted the same bonus money (₹2.5 crore) as the rest of his support staff (bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, fielding coach T Dilip, and batting coach Vikram Rathore). We respect his sentiments” a BCCI official said.
Apart from the players and coaching staff, four reserve players and selectors will receive INR 1 crore each and the backroom staff which includes three physiotherapists, three throwdown specialists, two masseurs and the strength and conditioning coach will receive INR 2 crore each.
Gautam Gambhir appointed as new head coach
The BCCI announced Gautam Gambhir as the new head coach of Team India on Tuesday. Jay Shah confirmed Gambhir’s appointment on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) and wrote “It is with immense pleasure that I welcome Mr. Gautam Gambhir as the new Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team. Modern-day cricket has evolved rapidly, and Gautam has witnessed this changing landscape up close.
Shah also said that Gambhir is the ideal person taking the Indian Cricket team forward and BCCI fully supports him in his journey “Having endured the grind and excelled in various roles throughout his career, I am confident that Gautam is the ideal person to steer Indian Cricket forward. His clear vision for #TeamIndia, coupled with his vast experience, positions him perfectly to take on this exciting and most sought-after coaching role. The BCCI fully supports him as he embarks on this new journey” Shah said.
