New Delhi: The opening ceremony of the much-awaited Champions Trophy 2025 is slated to be held in Pakistan on February 16 or February 17. The big ICC event, which has been in news since quite a few months, begins on February 19 with Indian scheduled to play all their matches in Dubai. Ahead of the event, an opening ceremony has been planned which will see attendance from all the eight-team captains.
Keeping in mind India’s relations with Pakistan due to the long-standing political issue, will Indian skipper Rohit Sharma travel to the Asian nation for the opening ceremony is the question? Reportedly, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is confident that the Indian skipper will be in attendance at the event, which will have the customary photo-shoot of all the captains and a pre-event press conference.
PCB awaiting confirmation from ICC
As per a report on news agency PTI, the Pakistan Cricket board is awaiting a confirmation from the International Cricket Council (ICC) on the schedule of the entire event. Though the PCB is confident regarding Rohit’s participation in the event but keeping in mind India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan due to security concerns casts a doubt on Rohit’s attendance. As of now, there is no clarity from the BCCI regarding Rohit’s participation in the opening ceremony.
The report further mentions that the PCB has procured all the relevant clearances from its government to quickly issue visas to all the captains, players and officials who visit Pakistan for the pre-tournament events and this obviously includes Rohit or any other Indian player or official. The PCB has also made it clear to the global governing body that opening ceremony will be held in Pakistan.
The CT 2025 was in news in the past few months after India refused to travel to Pakistan for the event. Afters months of speculation and suspense, a hybrid model was finally decided for the event where India plays all their matches in Dubai and get through to the knockouts and the final eventually, they will be shifted to Dubai.
