New Delhi: Indian Railways’ employees are likely to receive a Diwali gift from the Centre with the government expected to announce a bonus soon. The 78-day bonus is likely to be announced soon. Every year, the government announces the bonus prior to the festivals of Dussehra and Diwali.
To be sure, these bonuses are performance linked and the Centre will take into account the Indian Railways’ bottom line before announcing a bonus.
78 day bonus for railway employees calculation
The Centre calculates the bonus for Railways employees based on the minimum wages of group D employees which is capped at Rs 7,000. In 2022, the Centre announced a Rs 17,951 bonus for over 11 Railways employees, totalling Rs 1,832 crore, CNBC Awaaz reported.
In 2023, the Centre announced a Rs 1,969 crore bonus hike for 11.07 lakh non-gazetted railways employees. Disbursed by the railway since 2012, the performance-linked bonus is awarded every year by the Centre to group C and D employees of the Indian Railways.
Railways employees demand bonus hike
The Indian Railways Employees Federation demanded last year that the government must implement the productivity-linked bonus based on the 7th Pay Commission’s recommendations. However, the bonus is calculated based on the minimum salary fixed under the 6th Pay Commission.
The IREF has suggested that the bonus should be hiked to Rs 46,159, compared to Rs 17,951 issued earlier, after taking the minimum salary under the 7th Pay Commission into account.
The Centre is reportedly expected to announce a bonus for non-gazetted Indian Railways employees. Know how much group C and D employees received last year. Business Business News – Personal Finance News, Share Market News, BSE/NSE News, Stock Exchange News Today
