New Delhi: Rangers FC have announced Patrick Stewart as their new Chief Executive Officer and will assume the role on 16th December. The Aberdeen native had previously been in the same authority on an interim term with Manchester United, a tenure that lasted 18 years across various boardroom capacities at Old Trafford.

Stewart had previously held different roles in the Premier League, FA, and European Club Association and was also an arbitrator for the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The Rangers’ interim chairman, John Gilliga, welcomed Stewart, noting his “reputation and background” and the treasure of experience working at the top flight of football he will bring.

The board is still looking for candidates who can permanently fill the chairman’s role and is expected to make announcements in the coming weeks. Stewart replaces James Bisgrove, who left the club in the summer to join the Saudi Pro League team Al-Qadsiah. Since Bisgrove’s departure, the role at Rangers was vacant until Stewart’s announcement. Rangers had recently announced a £17m loss, and that will be Stewart’s first agenda to address when he takes over.

On the field, Philippe Clement’s Rangers are currently third in the Scottish Premiership, trailing Aberdeen by eight points and Celtic by 11. In the Europa League, they have so far collected seven points from 12 matches. Meanwhile, Jo Potter’s women’s team sits second in the SWPL, just one point behind Glasgow City, and have reached the SWPL Cup semi-finals.

Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur will be coming to Glasgow for a vital Europa League clash at Ibrox on Thursday, December 12. The game will be followed by the Scottish League Cup final will be held on Sunday, December 15.
