Ottawa: After Khalistani extremists attacked Hindu-Canadian devotees at the Hindu Sabha temple in Bratimpton, Canadian Member of Parliament Chandra Arya condemned the violence, stating that a “red line has been crossed” and highlighting the alarming rise of violent extremism in Canada.
In a video shared on X, Arya expressed his concerns, saying, “A red line has been crossed by Canadian Khalistani extremists today. The attack by Khalistanis on the Hindu-Canadian devotees inside the premises of the Hindu Sabha temple in Brampton shows how deep and brazen Khalistani violent extremism has become in Canada.” He further noted, “I begin to feel that there is a small grain of truth in the reports that in addition to Canadian political apparatus, Khalistanis have effectively infiltrated into our law enforcement agencies.”
Arya pointed out that Khalistani extremists are exploiting Canada’s freedom of expression laws, claiming they receive a “free pass.” He urged Hindu-Canadians to assert their rights and hold politicians accountable for their community’s safety: “No wonder that under the ‘freedom of expression’ Khalistani extremists are getting a free pass in Canada. As I have been saying for long, Hindu-Canadians, for the security and safety of our community, need to step up and assert their rights and hold politicians accountable.”
This incident is part of a troubling trend of religious intolerance in Canada, with Arya previously voicing concern over violence against Hindu-Canadian communities. In July, he condemned the vandalism of the BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir in Edmonton and highlighted the pattern of attacks on Hindu temples across the country, including incidents in the Greater Toronto Area and British Columbia.
Notably, a Hindu temple in Windsor was defaced with anti-India graffiti last year, prompting widespread outrage and calls for action from Canadian and Indian officials. Earlier incidents in Mississauga and Brampton had also drawn strong reactions from the Indian community in Canada.
