New Delhi: India is preparing to celebrate its 76th Republic Day tomorrow, 26 January. This significant occasion marks the day the Constitution of India was officially adopted on 26 January 1950, symbolising the nation’s transition to becoming a fully sovereign and democratic republic. Republic Day commemorates the adoption of the Indian Constitution, a milestone that signifies the establishment of India as a sovereign, democratic republic.
India achieved independence from colonial rule in 1947, marking the end of years of struggle and the beginning of a new era for the nation. However, the journey towards establishing a robust framework for governance was incomplete at that point. It was on 26 January 1950 that the Constitution of India came into effect, laying the foundation for the country’s democratic and sovereign identity.
