New Delhi: Kolkata Knight Riders’ explosive batter Rinku Singh believes that the Indian Premier League has now reached a point where it wouldn’t be surprising if a team scores 300 runs in a single innings. Ahead of IPL 2025, there was a lot of talk about the chances of teams crossing the 300-run mark, mainly because franchises have been focusing heavily on continuous power-hitting.

Speaking to JioHotstar, Rinku said he supports the idea of a team reaching 300 runs, pointing out that the way teams have chased big scores in the past shows how much the game has changed.

“Yes, we can do it. IPL has reached a stage where even 300 is possible; last year, Punjab chased a total of 262 runs. All teams are strong this season – anyone can get to 300,” the left-handed batter said.

After breaching the 250 runs mark three times during their runners-up campaign last year, Sunrisers Hyderabad nearly touched the 300-run mark in their first match of this season.

However, they finished at 286/7 against Rajasthan Royals at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, just one run short of their own highest score of 287/3 against RCB last year, which also remains the highest team total in IPL history.

Rinku Singh also mentioned his role in the team and the importance of finishing the games from crunch situations. He also talked about the significance of fitness and composure in order to stay competitive at the highest level.

“I usually bat at No. 5 or 6 — I’ve done that for UP and in the IPL, so I’m used to it. I focus a lot on fitness because with 14 matches in the IPL, it’s my responsibility to maintain my body and recover well.

“I also speak to Mahi Bhai often — he tells me to stay calm and play according to the match situation. Things fall into place when you stay composed.” Rinku also shared his insights on how he continues to evolve as a batter by learning from senior players like Andre Russell in the KKR squad.

“I’ve been learning since I started playing in the IPL. I observe Russell closely, especially how he bats in the final overs, and how he uses his body to generate power. I keep watching and picking up things from him,” Rinku said.
