New Delhi: India’s top-order crumbled yet again in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 with another failure preventing the team from getting a good start for the fourth successive match. The opening partnership of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma flattered to deceive again in the ongoing Super Eight match between India and Afghanistan at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados.
Opting to bat first, India failed to capitalise on the powerplay after losing their first wicket early in the innings. While Kohli managed to spend some much-needed time in the middle, Rohit in the third over for 11.
Kohli’s stay was also short. He followed his captain soon, getting out for a run-a-ball 24. The highlight of his innings was a superb straight six off Naveen-ul-Haq, which reminded the fans of the iconic six off Haris Rauf’s ball in the 2022 T20 World Cup.
As soon as both the openers fell, fans on social media started trolling Rohit for his decision to keep Yashasvi Jaiswal out of the team in favour of out-of-sorts Kohli.
One fan pointed out how Jaiswal’s absence is hampering the batting performances of Rohit, who likes to take some time at the start, especially on slow pitches.
Removing Jaiswal from the opening was the worst decision, Rohit Sharma needs some time at the start, especially in these conditions.

When you select player on basis on ODIs, people told me if Rohit Sharma is playing ODIs at strike rate of 130+ then he will play T2OIs at strike rate of 200, where are those MFs?
I hate each and one of them who selected Rohit over Jaiswal/Rutu/Rinku/Gill. I hate them!!

Kohli’s batting woes continue
Kohli’s struggle continued with yet another batting failure, which raises the question about his selection. The pressure also mounts on the Indian team management, which has kept faith in Kohli despite three failures. While Kohli spent some much-needed time in the middle, his struggles at the crease were quite evident during his laborious 24-run knock.
