New Delhi: India’s Test and ODI skipper Rohit Sharma will return to action in the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh which gets underway on Thursday, September 19. The Hitman will be eyeing a massive feat in the Test series as he stands just two centuries away from joining the legendary Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli in an elite list.
Rohit currently has 48 centuries to his name across formats and needs just two more tons to become only the third Indian batter to complete 50 centuries in international cricket. Tendulkar and Kohli are the only other two Indian batters to have scored more than fifty hundreds in international cricket. While Tendulkar ended his stellar career with a remarkable 100 centuries, Kohli has 80 centuries to his name currently.
Indian batters with most centuries in international cricket:
Sachin Tendulkar – 100
Virat Kohli – 80
Rohit Sharma – 48
Having retired from T20Is earlier this year, Rohit remains a vital cog in India’s batting line-up in Tests and ODIs. The Indian skipper has 31 hundreds in ODIs, 12 centuries in Tests and 5 tons in T20Is. He has 48 centuries to his name overall and will be looking to become the 3rd Indian to complete 50 centuries in the Test series against Bangladesh.
The Indian team is currently preparing for the two-match series in a national camp in Chennai. The first Test between the two sides will be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai followed by the second game in Kanpur. The Test series is a crucial one for India, who are on top of the World Test Championship (WTC) rankings and are bidding to reach a third successive final in the competition.
