New Delhi: Rajasthan Royals (RR) pacer Sandeep Sharma had an off day with the ball as he bowled a horrific last over to match an unwanted record during his side’s clash against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Wednesday, April 16. Sandeep ended up bowling four wides and a no-ball to concede 19 runs off the over.
He also equalled the record for the longest over by any bowler in IPL history, in terms of balls bowled. Sandeep bowled a total of 11 deliveries in the over, allowing DC to finish their innings on a high after RR bowlers strangled their batters in the middle overs. Sandeep became the fourth bowler in IPL history to complete an over with 11 deliveries.
Bowling against Tristan Stubbs and Ashutosh Sharma in the final over, Sandeep started with a wide before bowling a legal dot delivery to Ashutosh. He bowled three consecutive wides next, trying to keep the ball away from Ashutosh’s reach outside the off stump.
The over turned out to be even more dramatic when Sandeep followed up his three wides with a no-ball, conceding a single off it. Stubbs smashed a four on the free-hit delivery to help DC get 10 runs on the first two legal deliveries of the 20th over. Stubbs smashed a six over wide long-on on the next delivery to pile more misery on Sandeep.
However, the RR pacer managed to make a strong comeback by conceding only three singles on the last three balls of the over. The four conceded by Sandeep on the free-hit delivery was the first boundary given by him in his spell against DC. He had given away only 14 runs off the first three overs, but finished with expensive figures of 0/33 off his 4 overs.
