New Delhi: After registering a colossal record for successive centuries in T20Is, Sanju Samson, who seemed like getting back to form, registered an unwanted record with successive ducks during the T20I series against South Africa. Samson was out for a 2-ball duck in the third T20I against the Proteas on Wednesday and it was the second time that he got out for a duck after suffering the same fate in the second T20I as well.
Earlier, Samson had scored a century (107) in the series opener against Proteas and a ton (111) in the last T20I match against Bangladesh, which was his last assignment in the shortest format for Samson. He became the first Indian batter to score successive hundreds in the shortest format. After India were put into bat first by the hosts, they suffered the first big blow on the second ball of the opening over bowled by Marco Jansen.
With this unwanted record, Samson now has 6 ducks in just 32 T20I innings for India. The unwanted list is led by Rohit Sharma and it also has star batter Virat Kohli and seasoned campaigner KL Rahul as part.
Most ducks for India in T20Is
Rohit Sharma – 12 ducks in 151 innings
Virat Kohli – 7 ducks in 117 innings
Sanju Samson – 6 ducks in 32 innings
KL Rahul – 5 ducks in 68 innings
Post his dismissal, the wicketkeeper-batter was trolled heavily on social media by the netizens who were expecting a solid show from the Kerala batter. He also became the first Indian to register five ducks in T20Is in a single calendar year.
