After cricket, Indian govt denies permission to kabaddi team to travel to Pakistan

New Delhi: In the ongoing tussle between India and Pakistan over scheduling of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, the Indian government has now reportedly denied the men’s Kabaddi team to travel to Pakistan for a few friendly matches. This is another indication on the Indian government’s steadfast move to bar its sporting teams from visiting the neighbouring country.

According to a report by news agency Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), the Pakistan Kabaddi Federation (PKF) secretary Mohammad Sarwar Rana expressed disappointment over Indian team’s decision to pull out from the tour.

“Our counterparts in India have conveyed the inability to send their team to Pakistan. We regret this decision, as we had eagerly anticipated hosting them here,” Sarwar told APP.

This move comes after the Indian government asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to not send the Indian men’s cricket team for the Champions Trophy next year to Pakistan. Even the Indian men’s blind cricket team is yet to get clearance from the Home Ministry for the visas for the Blind T20 World Cup, scheduled in Lahore and Multan from November 22 to December 3.

Earlier this week, the Ministry of External Affairs was said to deny visas to Pakistan scrabble team for the Asia Cup Youth Scrabble Championship in New Delhi. The Ministry refuted reports which made such claims and clarified that all the Pakistan members were issued visas on November 7, as sources close to the development said.

The latest holding of the Kabaddi national team was the constant stance that India dosen’t wish to send any teams to Pakistan regardless of the importance of the sporting event. The last sporting team to visit Pakistan was the Indian men’s tennis team, which toured to Islamabad at the start of the year in January to participate in the Davis Cup. Although the All India Tennis Association appealed to move the tie from Pakistan, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) rejected the request.
