Mumbai: Sawan, the auspicious month dedicated to Lord Shiva, begins on Monday, the 22nd of July, 2024. According to the Hindu calendar, Sawan begins on the first day of Krishna Paksha (waning phase of the moon) in the month of Ashadha. Sawan, also known as Shravan Maas, has a profound significance in Hindu culture. There is great significance to the observance of Somvar Vrat (Monday fast), Mangala Gauri Vrat, and Sawan Shivratri during this month.

Sawan 2024 date

The month of Sawan in 2024 will begin on Monday, the 22nd of July. Panchang states that the first day of Sawan falls on the Pratipada (first day) of Krishna Paksha, which begins at 03:46 PM on the 21st of July and lasts until 01:11 PM on the 22nd. Based on the sunrise timing, Sawan begins on July 22nd.

The beginning of Sawan coincides with Preeti Yoga and Shravan Nakshatra. Preeti Yoga lasts from morning until 05:58 PM, while Shravan Nakshatra lasts from morning until 10:21 PM. August 19th marks the end of Sawan.

Sawan will witness five Somvar Vrats this year. The first Sawan Somvar Vrat will take place on July 22nd, and the fifth on August 19th. The dates of Sawan Somvar Vrat are as follows:

In 2024, Sawan Shivratri will fall on Friday, 2nd of August. Sawan Krishna Paksha’s Chaturdashi begins on the 2nd of August at 03:26 PM and ends at 03:50 PM on the 3rd of August, according to the Vedic calendar. Based on Nishita Muhurta, Sawan Shivratri occurs on the 2nd of August.
