‘She Likes Me’: Trump Reveals What Was Melania’s Reaction to Assassination Bid

New Delhi: Former US President Donald Trump recently revealed that his wife, Melania, was left “traumatised” by the shooting incident that occurred during his Pennsylvania rally on July 13.   In his interview with Fox News, Trump revealed that Melania, who was watching the event live on television, was deeply shaken by the attack.  Trump, who sustained an injury to his right ear during the incident, shared that Melania initially feared the “worst had happened” when Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire at the rally.

‘She Thought The Worst Had Happened’

On being asked about Melania’s reaction to the incident, the former US President said she was deeply affected. “She was watching live… She can’t really even talk about it. Traumatised. Which is okay because that means she likes me,” Trump told Fox News host Laura Ingraham.

“When I went down, she thought the worst had happened… because I went down and grabbed my hand and my hand was loaded up with blood,” Trump added.

Meanwhile, the FBI has announced that former President Donald Trump, the 2024 Republican presidential nominee, will be interviewed as a crime victim following the recent assassination attempt. Last week, the bureau reported that Trump had been struck in the ear by a bullet or a fragment. Trump has indicated that he expects the interview to take place on Thursday.

Investigators believe that Thomas Matthew Crooks fired eight shots from an AR-style rifle at Trump after scaling the roof of a building about 135 meters (147 yards) away from where Trump was speaking in Butler, Pennsylvania. The attack resulted in one death and two injuries among rallygoers. Crooks was killed by a Secret Service counter-sniper.

During a recent hearing, Kimberly Cheatle, former director of the US Secret Service, criticized the agency for its failure to protect Trump, calling the incident the Secret Service’s “most significant operational failure” in decades.

She promised to thoroughly investigate the lapse and ensure it does not happen again.

Cheatle admitted that the Secret Service had been alerted to a suspicious individual multiple times before the shooting and that the roof from which Crooks fired had been identified as a potential risk days before the rally.

Cheatle also revealed that she apologized to Trump following the assassination attempt and resigned after facing criticism from lawmakers during a House hearing, where she struggled to address specific questions about the communication failures leading up to the July 13 incident.
