Shirur landslide : Netizens ‘angered’ at Siddaramaiah for not locating Kerala lorry driver

Kozhikode : Social media handles indicates that there is widespread anger among a section of netizens in Kerala over the alleged mishandling of the rescue and search operations by the Karnataka government machinery that is trying to locate four more people including Kozhikode native Arjun Mooladikuzhiyil, a 30-year-old truck driver who is believed to have stuck in landslide spot for the past 6 days.

Large number of netizens from Kerala was seen posting ‘shamekarnatakagovernment’ and ‘savearjun’ beneath the Facebook posts of Siddaramaiah where he posted visiting to the site and the photos which the Chief Ministers office has posted related to the visit to the spot.

Many of the posts condemned the alleged delay in the search and rescue operations that is currently underway at the site. Meanwhile, people in Kannadikkal, the hometown of Arjun took out a march on Saturday night and Sunday morning against the delay in the search and rescue operations when it was halted for a while due to adverse weather conditions.

The family of Arjun had alleged that the police team and the district administration had failed to start the rescue operations on time and has stated that the police team in Shirur was behaving indifferently with rescue operation teams and few family members who had reached at the site to find details of the situation and with the hope that Arjun would return back home soon.

“Karnataka police officials failed to act at the right time. The government machinery was a major failure. Usually in a situation like this when human beings are feared to be trapped inside the landfill debris, the entire police machinery should be at the spot. But here it was after a lot of hue and cry and the media attention that the rescue team was deployed. This is extremely unfortunate”, said Deepak, a close friend and neighbor of Arjun in Kozhikode.
