New Delhi: Shubman Gill scripted history in the ongoing third One-Day International between India and England at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on February 12, Wednesday. The stylish batter continued his prolific run in the 50-over format with his third successive half-century and in the process, etched his name in the history books.

Gill broke the world record and achieved a mega milestone by becoming the fastest batter in the world to score 2500 runs in ODIs. Not only this, he also became the highest run-getter in the history of cricket in his first 50 ODI innings.

While Amla crossed the 2500-run mark in ODIs in his 53rd innings for the Proteas, Gill reached the milestone in 50 innings.

Gill continues superb scoring run

Gill continued his superb scoring run with his third successive fifty. The 25-year-old Punjab batter smashed 87 runs from 96 balls in the 1st ODI played at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur on February 6 and scored 60 off 51 balls in the 2nd ODI at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on February 9, Sunday.

At the time of writing this article, the prolific batter, who boasts a batting average of more than 60 in ODIs, was batting on 78 off 71 balls. He added 116 runs for the second wicket with Virat Kohli, who finally ended his scoring drought with a 52-run knock. Earlier, Rohit Sharma, the India skipper, who scored a century in the second ODI, was dismissed cheaply for 1 by Mark Wood.

Gill would most likely topple Babar Azam from the No.1 ODI ranking spot if he manages to convert his fifty into a big score. Ahead of the third ODI, the ICC announced the latest ODI rankings which saw Gill move up to the second spot in batting charts.
