Shubman Gill takes a blinder to dismiss Rishabh Pant in Duleep Trophy | Video

New Delhi: India’s domestic season kicked off with a pair of Duleep Trophy fixtures on September 5 (today). Indian cricket’s A-listers took the field as India A and India B faced off in Bengaluru while India C and India D locked horns in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh.

Shubman Gill-led India A opted to bowl first against Abhimanyu Easwaran’s India B at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. After making a decent start, three wickets (Yashasvi Jaiswal, Easwaran and Sarfraz Khan) for 34 runs pegged India B back.

The Bengaluru crowd made a loud cheer on the arrival of Rishabh Pant, who is making his red-ball comeback. However, Pant’s return ended in disappointment. He was dismissed for just 7 runs by Akash Deep but the credit for the wicket should go to Gill, who took a stunning catch running backwards.

Going for the big one, Pant miscued a lofted shot, which, at one point, looked destined to land in a safe area. But Gill had other ideas. The India A skipper ran backwards from mid-off and took a sensational diving catch running backwards.

Akash Deep piled more misery on the India B side, dismissing Indian Premier League (IPL) sensation Nitish Kumar Reddy with a peach of an outswinger.

Musheer Khan sizzles with sensational century

Musheer Khan, brother of Sarfaraz Khan, who made headlines in the U-19 World Cup 2024 earlier this year, smashed a sensational century on his Duleep Trophy debut. He stitched a superb 108-run stand with tail-ender Navdeep Saini, who only contributed 29 runs in the partnership.

Musheer remained unbeaten on 105 (227b, 10x4s, 2x6s) as India B finished with 202/7 at Stumps on Day 1. For India A, Khaleel Ahmed, Akash Deep and Avesh Khan bagged two wickets each.
