New Delhi: With 917 million followers across various platforms and counting, Cristiano Ronaldo is already the most followed person on social media and within 90 minutes of launching his YouTube channel, Cristiano Ronaldo broke the record for the fastest account to get to one million subscribers.
The channel, named ‘UR’, was launched Wednesday where the football superstar will discuss his “greatest passion” (football) and “his other interests, including family, wellness, nutrition, preparation, recovery, education, and business”, as well as chat with guests.
“The wait is over. My @YouTube channel is finally here! SIUUUbscribe and join me on this new journey,” the Portuguese wrote on his social media accounts to announce the launch of his YouTube channel, which received over 12.3 million subscribers within the first few hours.
“I am very happy to make this project come to life. It has been in my mind for a long time but finally we have the opportunity to make it real,” the Al Nassr striker said.
“I have always enjoyed having such a strong relationship with fans on social media and my YouTube channel will give me an even bigger platform to do so and they will learn more about me, my family, and my views on many different subjects.
“I am also looking forward to sharing conversations with guests that will no doubt surprise people!”

Ronaldo overtakes Messi
The former Real Madrid and Manchester United frontman surpassed his great rival Lionel Messi, who has 2.16 million subscribers has been gathered over a far longer period of time.
Along with the Argentine, Ronaldo is regarded as the two greatest players of their generation and among the best in the world in football history.
The 39-year-old has already released 19 videos on his channel, in which he has shared his thoughts on other sports like boxing, UFC, NBA and NFL, also revealing his likeness for tennis, admitting his inability to pick between Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal as his favourite.
