Thiruvananthapuram: Investigation into the death of the 18-year-old Youtuber, Adithya S Nair who had attempted suicide and was hospitalised has led to the arrest of her boyfriend. Binoy, a resident of Uzhamalackal in Thiruvananthapuram was apprehended by the police in connection with the suicide of Adithya, who hailed from Thrikkanapuram.
The Poojappura police have charged Binoy under sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, for abetment of suicide after a complaint was filed by Adithya’s family members.
As per the FIR, Binoy and the girl was in a romantic relationship. When the girl disclosed the relationship with her parents, the family assured her that they would arrive at a decision after consulting with the boy’s family members. The teenager was asked to focus on her studies since her plus-2 board examinations were underway by then.
Few months ago, a quarrel broke out between the duo that led to the break-up of the relationship. Dejected and distressed after the break-up, the girl allegedly attempted suicide by hanging herself at her home on the night of June 10. Adithya was rushed to the hospital the same day, however, she was declared dead on June 16th. Police tried to take her statement but could not do so due to her worsening health condition.
Investigation revealed that the girl had known Binoy since before puberty and they were well connected through social media. A probe by the POCSO department is underway to find more about what led to the suicide. “We are extremely shocked as what has happened now. She was a very jovial person who use to socialize well and its very hard to believe as what has happened,” said Susheel, a friend of Adithya.
Adithya had more than 1 lakh followers on Instagram. There have been comments pouring from various quarters that refers to the cyber bullying she had undergone, where a majority of them lashed out at the cyber trollers who had targeted her after her relationship broke.
