New Delhi: Team India beat South Africa by 61 runs in the first T20I at Kingsmead Cricket Stadium in Durban on November 8, Friday. Sanju Samson and Varun Chakaravarthy performed brilliantly to extend India’s dominance on South Africa.
Team India scored 202 runs in 20 overs after South African skipper Aiden Markram opted to bowl first. Gerald Coetzee removed Abhishek Sharma on 7 runs but Samson played a stunning knock and scored his second consecutive T20I century. He amassed 107 runs off 50 balls, his remarkable knock was laced with 10 maximums and seven fours.
Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma also made crucial contributions with the bat. Gerald Coetzee picked up three wickets while Janson, Maharaj, Kruger and Peter took one wicket each. Chasing the massive target, South Africa lost three big wickets in the powerplay.
Arshdeep Singh removed Aiden Markram on 8 runs while Varun Chakaravarthy and Avesh Khan dismissed Rickelton and Stubbs cheaply. Klaasen and Miller tried to stitch a partnership but Indian bowlers delivered a clinical performance in the run-chase as South Africa bundled out for 141 runs in 17.5 overs. Chakaravarthy and Bishnoi picked up three wickets each while Avesh took two wickets.
