New Delhi: After the likes of Suryakumar Yadav and Rinku Singh, India seems to have a new part-time bowler on the rise as Shreyas Iyer was spotted bowling for Mumbai during their clash against TNCA XI in the ongoing Buchi Babu Trophy on Tuesday. Iyer surprised many by deciding to roll his arms over in the game and was seen imitating his Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) teammate Sunil Narine.
The incident took place in the 90th over of TNCA XI’s first innings on Day 1 of the match between the two teams at the Sri Ramakrishna College Cricket Ground in Coimbatore. Nearing the end of the day’s play, Mumbai skipper Sarfaraz Khan decided to hand over the ball to Iyer, who accepted the offer gladly as he tried pulling off a Narine.
Iyer’s bowling action was quite similar to that of his KKR teammate’s trademark hand behind-the-back style. However, he couldn’t find much success with it as he conceded 7 runs from the over and failed to get a breakthrough for Mumbai. Nonetheless, the video of Iyer’s not-so-unique bowling action caught the attention of fans on social media.

Iyer spent a lot of time with Narine while leading Kolkata Knight Riders during the IPL 2024 earlier this year and seems to have taken a leaf out of the spinner’s book when it comes to bowling. Iyer-led KKR enjoyed a phenomenal campaign in IPL 2024 as they went on to win the title after beating Sunrisers Hyderabad in a lop-sided final.
TNCA XI post 294/5 on Day 1 against Mumbai
TNCA XI produced a commendable display with the bat during their first innings on Day 1 of their clash against Mumbai in the Buchi Babu Trophy as they posted a strong total of 294/5 on the board. TNCA XI rode on half-centuries from Pradosh Ranjan Paul (65), Baba Indrajith (61) and Boopathi Vaishna Kumar (63) on a rain-marred day to edge closer to the 300-run mark.
Apart from Iyer and Sarfaraz, India’s T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav was also in action in the game. Both Iyer and Suryakumar will be seen in action in the Duleep Trophy after the Buchi Babu Trophy match.
