New Delhi: Indian grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa continues to hold the joint lead as he drew with fellow co-leader Alireza Firouzja of France in the seventh round of the Superbet Classic 2025, a part of the Grand Chess Tour, on Thursday. The chess prodigy has climbed to four points, which are out of a possible seven, and now shares the lead with Fabiano Caruana of the United States, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave of France, and Firouzja.
Meanwhile, world champion D Gukesh is still in search of an elusive victory in the event as he yet again played out a draw, with Wesley So of the United States, in the seventh round, without causing any real trouble to him. In seven games so far, Gukesh has only managed 2.5 points and is clearly struggling to make a mark in the event.

There are two more rounds to go before the conclusion of the event being held in Bucharest, Romania. It looks quite confirmed that any of the four leaders could win the trophy and a top prize money of USD 100,000.
Talking about Praggnanandhaa, he didn’t have to ponder much against Firouzja in a game that started with an English opening. The Iranian-turned-French grandmaster did try some tricks but couldn’t execute any serious counterplay, and the two players eventually pulled off a draw pretty soon.
Results (Round 7): R Praggnanandhaa (Ind, 4) drew with Alireza Firouzja (4); Levon Aronian (USA, 3.5) drew with Fabiano Caruana (USA, 4); Deac Bogdan Daniel (Rou, 3.5) drew with Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (4); Nodirbek Abdusattorov (Uzb, 3.5) beat Duda Jan Krzysztof (Pol, 2.5); Wesley So (USA, 3.5) drew with D Gukesh (Ind, 2.5).
The two Indian grandmasters drew their seventh round clashes as R Praggnanandhaa remained in joint lead at the Superbet Classic 2025 being held in Bucharest, Romania. Other Sports Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
