New Delhi: A heartwarming picture of Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav and his wife Devisha Shetty sleeping with the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy has gone viral on social media. Devisha shared the pictures with the trophy and Suryakumar on her official Instagram handle.
Team India beat South Africa by 7 runs in the T20 World Cup 2024 final at Kensington Oval in Barbados on Saturday, June 29. The Men in Blue ended India’s long-standing ICC trophy drought.
After India’s historic win, Devisha took to her Instagram handle and shared adorable pictures with her husband and the T20 World Cup trophy. In the first photo, the couple was seen admiring the World Cup silverware and in the second photo, both were captured in deep sleep with a trophy between them.
Suryakumar Yadav struggled with the bat in the initial few matches but he made a sensational comeback and scored crucial runs against Australia and England. He ended the tournament with 199 runs in eight matches at a strike rate of 135.
He was dismissed on three runs in the final but made an important contribution in the field, taking a brilliant catch of South Africa’s dangerous batter David Miller. Hardik Pandya bowled a low wide full toss on the first delivery of the last over and Miller smashed the ball hard but Suryakumar Yadav at long-off, juggled the ball and completed a great catch.
Virat, Rohit announced T20I retirement
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announced their retirement from T20I cricket after lifting the T20 World Cup 2024. Indian captain Rohit Sharma confirmed his retirement in the post-match press conference and said “This was my last (T20) game as well… No better time to say goodbye to this format. I’ve loved every moment of this. I started my India career playing this format. This is what I wanted, I wanted to win the cup.”
While Virat Kohli announced his retirement in the post-match presentation and said “This was an open secret, it was not something that I was not going to announce if we’d lost… This was going to be my last T20 World Cup playing for India, it’s time for the next generation to take over”.
