T20 World Cup 2024: Suryakumar, Bumrah headline India’s convincing win over Afghanistan

New Delhi: Suryakumar Yadav hit a sparkling half-century before Jasprit Bumrah wreaked havoc with the new ball to set up India to a comfortable 47-run win in their opening Super Eight fixture against Afghanistan at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados.

Set a daunting target of 182 on a slow pitch, Afghanistan were bowled out for 134 in 20 overs. Indian pacers had another fruitful outing with both Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh finishing with three wickets apiece. Ravindra Jadeja also chipped in with a wicket to open his account in the tournament. Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel, the other two spinners, also picked up a wicket each.

While India coasted home without any trouble, Afghanistan, to their credit, gave the Men In Blue tough competition, though it was only limited to bowling.

Courtesy of the convincing win, India maintained their unbeaten run in the tournament, matching top contenders Australia and South Africa.
