Tamil Nadu BSP leader Armstrong murder: Chennai Police suspects personal revenge

Chennai: The Greater Chennai police that is investigating the brutal murder of Tamil Nadu BSP chief K Armstrong said that the murder of Armstrong was a revenge killing over the murder of Arcot Suresh last year.

Armstrong’s murder is linked to Arcot Suresh’s murder which happened last year

“In August 2023, Arcot Suresh and his aide Madhavan were attacked by a gang near Pattinampakkam in Chennai. In the incident, Arcot Suresh died and Madhavan survived. Five months later, Madhavan was killed by another gang. Ponnai Balu brother of Arcot Suresh is accused of the BSP leader Thennarsu’s murder in 2015. His brother bomb Saravanan is on the radar for Arcot Suresh’s murder which happened last year, According to police sources.

“Now Ponnai Balu is involved in BSP leader Armstrong’s murder. Ponnai Balu is the brother of Arcot Suresh, a history-sheeter who was killed by a rival gang in Chennai last year. History sheeter Arcot Suresh’s brother Arcot Balu and 7 others arrested by Chennai police in connection with the Armstrong murder, a senior police officer said.

BSP Tamil Nadu president Armstrong was hacked to death near his house on Friday evening around 7 pm. The six-member gang which came in two-wheelers accosted him rained blows on him with weapons and fled the scene. Hours after the incident, gangster and history-sheeter Arcot Suresh’s brother Balu and four others surrendered before Anna Nagar Deputy Commissioner in connection with Armstrong’s murder. Additional commissioner of police Asra Garg said that they have arrested as many as eight people in connection with the murder and further investigation is on.

The Greater Chennai police confirm that the murder was due to previous enmity, however, police haven’t revealed what it is. Police have also confirmed that they have arrested eight persons in connection with the murder.

Armstrong, State President, of the Bahujan Samaj Party, was assaulted by unknown persons with knives at Venugopal Samy Kovil Street, Perambur in Sembium Police station limits, due to previous enmity.
