In the first six months of the year, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) board raked in a revenue of Rs 670.21 crore as Hundi income, as per officials.
The breakdown of this revenue by month is as follows: The TTD hauled in Rs 116.46 crore in January, Rs 111.71 crore in February, Rs 118.49 crore in March, Rs 101.63 crore in April, Rs 108.28 crore in May and Rs 113.64 crore were received as hundi gifts in June.
In this context, the steady rush of devotees to the hill shrine is playing a part in boosting the revenues of the temple board. Devotees have to wait for a minimum of eight hours in line for darshan of Lord Venkateswara Swamy. At least 71,409 devotees visited the temple on Wednesday on the occasion of first Ekadashi.
Meanwhile, as per information released by the temple, the total net worth of TTD is pegged to be around Rs 3 lakh crore, more than the market capitalization of major companies such as Tata Motors, Nestle, Bajaj Finserv, which stand at Rs 2.6 lakh crore.
TTD assets include 10.25 tonnes of gold deposits in banks, 2.5 tonnes of gold jewellery, Rs 16,000 crore of deposits in banks, 960 properties spread over 7,123 acres across India.
