Tamil Nadu: Explosion in Sivakasi firecracker manufacturing unit; 4 killed, several injured

Virudhunagar: At least four people were killed and several others injured in an explosion at a firecracker unit near Sattur in Virudhunagar on Saturday, June 29. The injured is being treated at the government hospital, said Virudhunagar District Collector.

The accident occurred at the Gurustar fireworks unit located in Banthuvarpatti near Sattur. According to the initial probe, as usual in the morning the workers were engaged in making crackers. Then there was an explosion due to chemical friction. After the explosion spread to the adjacent buildings, three buildings collapsed in the explosion.

“4 workers who were engaged in the firecracker industry have died in this accident so far. The fire department was immediately informed about the incident. Firefighters rushed to the spot and are engaged in rescue operations. Rescuers are searching for anyone trapped in the debris, a senior official said.
