Mumbai: Tata Trusts has named Noel Tata as the chairman of Tata Trusts which holds a majority stake in Tata Sons, the holding company of Tata Group. Noel Tata, the half-brother of Ratan Tata, was named chairman of Tata Trusts by a meeting of the board. Noel will become the 11th chairman of the Dorabji Tata Trusts. He will also become the 6th chairman of Sir Ratan Tata Trust.
He was already serving as the trustee of Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and Sir Ratan Tata Trust. The 2 entities jointly own 66 per cent of Tata Sons. Since Ratan Tata had not named a successor, Tata Trusts, the country’s largest charitable foundation, was required to name a new chairperson from among the trustees. Tata Trusts’ contributions in donations stood at $56 million or Rs 470 crore in donations in FY23.

The new Tata Trusts chairman is a Tata group veteran who has worked in its international business division, apart from heading Trent and serving on the board of Voltas and Titan. An alumnus of Sussex University and INSEAD, Noel was named to the Sir Ratan Tata Trust board in 2019.
