Tatkal ticket booking is a provision that allows passengers to book tickets, closer to the date of travel. These tickets are available at a higher price and can only be booked during a specific time window.
Tatkal ticket booking can only be made 1 day before the journey date.

How to book confirmed Tatkal ticket

To book a confirmed Tatkal ticket, visit the IRCTC website or app and log into your account.
The booking window opens at 10 am. For sleeper class bookings, the window opens at 11 am. You must be ready with the details and payment mode to ensure that you a re able to book your tickets.
For this purpose, you must log into your IRCTC account in advance of the opening of the window.
To speed up the process, prepare a master list of passengers with their details.
Also, save your mode of payment. This will ensure a smoother checkout during the Tatkal booking window which witnesses huge online traffic, leading to slower processing speeds for your transaction.

Tatkal Premium ticket price and cancellation

Tatkal ticket bookings include a premium tatkal fare equalling 10-30 per cent of the upper limit of a travel class added to the basic fare.
It should be noted that Tatkal waiting list cancellations will be refunded after a deduction of Rs 60 per passenger.
IRCTC Tatkal ticket cancellation refunds are processed based on the time of cancellation.
If the ticket is cancelled more than 48 hours before chart preparation, the charges are:
Cancellation charges for tickets cancelled between 48 hours upto to 12 hours before the chart is made, the deduction is a flat 25 per cent of the fare.
Cancellations less than 12 hours before the chart is made will lead to a 50 per cent flat deduction.
There is no cancellation of tickets after chart preparation and passengers can file for ticket deposit receipt (TDR).
However, there will be no refunds for confirmed tickets or RAC tickets if they were not cancelled.
 IRCTC Tatkal booking: The Indian Railways offers the Tatkal booking feature for last minute train berth bookings across travel categories.
