An under construction bridge collapsed for the second time in three months in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district of Telangana on Tuesday evening, Tv9 telugu reported.
It was being constructed between Oded, Mutharam mandal of Peddapalli district and Garimillapalli, Tekumatla mandal of Jayashankar Bhupalpally district at an estimated cost of Rs 46 crore.
Five cement girders placed between pillars 17 and 18 collapsed in one fell swoop on the bridge towards Garimillapalli due to heavy wind and rain, locals said.
R&B officer in charge of Pedpadalli district, EE Narsimhachari stated that the incident happened primarily due to the collapse of the cement girders due to the gust of wind. Officials have been sent to the field and are investigating the reasons behind the incident, he said.
It may be recalled that three pillars of the bridge had collapsed due to heavy winds on April 22 this year.
The bridge was being constructed across river Maneru to improve road connectivity between Peddapalli and Jayashankar-Bhupalpally districts.
Though the foundation for the bridge was laid in 2016, the work has not been completed even after eight years.
Moreover, there were doubts among the locals over the quality of work since beams of the bridge were washed away in the floods in the last monsoon. The pillars were also damaged.
