Telangana cabinet expansion, TPCC president appointment delayed: Reports

Hyderabad: Appointment of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president and decisions on cabinet expansion is delayed and may take at least one more week, reports said.

CM Revanth Reddy along with AICC Telangana in-charge Deepa Das Munshi is in Delhi to meet AICC leaders and the high command want to ensure all communities are adequately represented in the cabinet. The party leadership assured the CM that the matter will be revisited in a week or 10 days.

CM Revanth Reddy has been in intensive meetings with AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, senior leader Rahul Gandhi and General Secretary KC Venugopal. These meetings saw discussions on appointment of a new TPCC President but there has been no consensus.

Party high command is considering caste dynamics in these appointments, as per Times of India. If a Backward Classes (BC) leader is appointed as the TPCC president, SC, ST leaders would be prioritized for cabinet berths and if an ST candidate is appointed as TPCC chief, cabinet berths would be adjusted accordingly.

Who are the frontrunners?

The frontrunners for TPCC chief post are MLC B Mahesh Kumar Goud (BC), MP Suresh Shetkar, Madhu Yashki Goud (BC), MP P Balram Naik (ST), former MLA Sampath Kumar (SC).

For cabinet positions, main contenders include MLA Vakiti Srihari (BC Mudiraj), Khanapur MLA Vedma Bojju (ST), MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy among others.

Currently, there are 12 members in the cabinet while it can have up to 18 members including the CM. Aspiring candidates are vying for the remaining six positions.

Party high command is considering caste dynamics in these appointments and wants to ensure enough representation for all communities.  Telangana States News India: Top News India, States News, States News Headlines, Online State News India, State Politics news
