Telangana phone-tapping case: ED asks for details from Hyderabad Police, says no case against KCR

Hyderabad: The Enforcement Directorate has denied that a case was booked against ex-CM K Chandrasekhar Rao and sought details from Hyderabad Police on the phone-tapping case.

The denial by ED comes in the light of Medak BJP MP M Raghunandan Rao claiming that the ED had already filed a case against ex-CM KCR.

Phone-tapping case:

The ED’s involvement in the case is reportedly dependent on the Hyderabad Police incorporating sections that fall under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

“The only section that attracts PMLA is criminal conspiracy. The agency, however, cannot go ahead with it unless another section like extortion is added. We are seeking details from Hyderabad police,” ED was quoted as saying by the Times of India.

A charge sheet was filed by the Hyderabad Police against six accused cops including ex-DCP Radha Kishan Rao, suspended DSP Praneeth Rao, additional superintendents of police Tirupatanna, Bhujanga Rao and two absconding persons – ex-SIB chief T Prabhakar Rao and a senior media executive Shravan Kumar. Notably, the charge sheet did not name any BRS politicians.

Hyderabad police invoked multiple charges including conspiracy, screening of evidence, violations under prevention of damage to public property act, cyber terrorism, sections of IT Act, section 166 of the IPC.
