Telangana Police hit by a second data breach in a week, TSCOP app hacked

Hyderabad: A week after Telangana Police’s Hawkeye app was hacked, another app TSCOP, has been hacked as well, reports said.

Due to the data breach, police related data is available for sale online and interestingly, the same hacker who is responsible for Hawkeye app breach is involved in the hacking of TSCOP.

The user data of the app was hacked and was put up online for sale for $120. The app was launched in 2018 and was meant for internal use of Telangana police, to mainly provide instant information and as an aid to solve crime.

Srinivas Kodali, data researcher who discovered the leak, said “Someone hacked entire the entire Telangana police network and TSCOP and the facial recognition setup. This is very very easy because the company which built this software, WINC IT Services has harcoded (embedded passwords as plaint text) inside TSCOP. The TSCOP connects to CCTNS.”

Kodali also revealed that Telangana Police is collecting data of everyone who checks into a hotel in Hyderabad and sending it to a block chain company named Zebichain.

A preview of the hacked data was also shared on BreachForums, a platform where stolen data sold to cyber criminals. This data includes criminal record details, names, ranks and pictures of police officials.

The hacked Hawkeye data includes SOS calls from women, names, emails, phone numbers and other sensitive data of about 2 lakh users.
