Hyderabad: Six BRS MLCs joined the Congress party overnight in the presence of CM Revanth Reddy and AICC in-charge Deepadas Munshi in the early hours of Friday at the CM’s Jubilee Hills residence.
The six MLCs who joined the Congress party include Dande Vital, Bhanu Prasad, Dayanand Buggarapu, Prabhakar Rao, Yege Mallesham, Basavaraja Saraiyalu.
This takes the strength of the Congress party in Telangana Legislative Council to 12. The other 6 MLCs of the Congress party are Venkat Balmoor, Mahesh Goud, Jeevan Reddy, Teenmar Mallanna, Kuchukulla Damodar Reddy, Patnam Mahender Reddy.
Exodus from BRS:
This comes after three BRS MLAs, Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Kale Yadaiah, Sanjay Kumar joined the Congress party in recent times. Prior to Lok Sabha elections, Danam Nagender, Tellam Venkat Rao and Kadiyam Srihari quit the BRS to join Congress.
The exodus from the BRS has been ongoing since the party lost state Assembly elections in December 2023. Several leaders from local ZPTCs, MPTCs to MLAs and MPs have left the party, spelling trouble for the party and its leader KCR.
At present, BRS’ strength in the Legislative Assembly has fallen from 39 to 33 due to many MLA defections over the last few weeks. The BRS also lost Secunderabad Cantonment by-election to the Congress after BRS MLA Lasya Nanditha died in a road accident.
