New Delhi: Team India will play their T20 World Cup semi-final against England at Providence Stadium in Guyana on June 27. South Africa and India are the only two undefeated teams in the tournament and the Men in Blue are the strong contenders for lifting the trophy in Barbados on June 29.
Former India opener Virender Sehwag made a heartfelt appeal to Rohit Sharma and his team. Sehwag wants the Men in Blue to win the T20 World Cup for Rahul Dravid, who is on his last assignment as the coach of the Indian Team. Sehwag said as a team they played the 2011 World Cup for Sachin Tendulkar. So, Rohit and his team can win the T20 World Cup for Rahul Dravid.
“We played the 2011 World Cup for Sachin Tendulkar. So, this T20 World Cup can be for Rahul Dravid. At least as a coach, he gets to win the World Cup and get the badge of being a World Cup winner, which he didn’t get as a player” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.
Earlier, Rahul Dravid announced that the ongoing T20 World Cup will be his last assignment with the Indian team as coach. He said that he really enjoyed coaching India and it is a special job to do but considering the schedule he won’t be able to reapply.
“I love doing the job. I’ve really enjoyed coaching India and I think it’s a truly special job to do. I enjoyed working with this team and it’s a great bunch of boys to work with but yeah but just considering you know unfortunately just the kind of schedules and where I find myself in the stage in my life I don’t think I’ll be able to reapply” Rahul Dravid said in a press conference.
Team India will look to end their 11-year ICC trophy drought by winning the T20 World Cup 2024. Rohit Sharma and Co. reached in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2022 but England defeated India by 10 wickets and lifted the trophy after beating Pakistan in the final.
‘If Rohit steps away Gill is his right replacement’: Sehwag
Shubman Gill was named as the captain of the team for the five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe. Sehwag on Cricbuzz said that Gill plays in all three formats and had a brilliant last year. He also said that he was unlucky to miss out on the T20 World Cup squad but feels that he will be the right replacement as captain if Rohit steps down.
“If tomorrow Rohit steps away from Tests and ODIs, then Shubman Gill will be his right replacement as captain. So the right captain has been picked keeping the future in mind” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.
