New Delhi: India defeated South Africa by 9 wickets in the final of the U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025 at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday, February 2. The Women in Blue won their second consecutive title. Trisha scored an unbeaten 44 runs to help beat the Proteas Women.

Team India successfully defended the title which they won two years ago under Richa Ghosh’s captaincy. South Africa opted to bat first in the final and Jemma Botha smashed two boundaries in the first over but Indian bowlers made a strong comeback as Parunika removed Simone Lourens for a duck.

Shabnam Shakil removed Botha on 16 runs while Aayushi Shukla dismissed Diara Ramlakan on 3 runs, leaving South Africa at 29/3 at the end of the powerplay. Indian bowlers tightened the screws with continuous dot balls to put more pressure on South African batters.

Mieke van Voorst amassed 23 runs off 18 balls while Fay Cowling also scored 15 runs but other batters failed to contribute as South Africa bundled out for 82 runs. Chasing the 83-run target, Kayla Reyneke dismissed G Kamalini on 8 runs but Sanika Chalke and Gongadi Trisha forged a 48-run partnership for the second wicket. Trisha remained unbeaten on 44 runs off 33 balls while Chalke amassed an unbeaten 26 runs off 22 balls leading India to a comfortable victory.

1)  Gongadi Trisha

The Indian opener showcased her batting talent in the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025, scoring 309 runs at an average of 77.25 in 7 matches. She was the leading run-scorer in the tournament and also claimed seven wickets in as many matches with a best of 3/6. Trisha amassed 159 runs in 5 matches at an average of 53.00 in the U19 Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2024. Trisha batted brilliantly in the crunch situations and scored runs consistently for India throughout the tournament. She was not picked by any franchise in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction.

2) G. Kamalini

The Indian wicketkeeper batter amassed 143 runs at an average of 35.75 in 7 matches and finished the tournament as the third-highest run-scorer. She did not have a great start to the tournament but came back in form during the Super Six match against Scotland with an innings of 51 and also scored an unbeaten 56 runs against England in the semifinal. Mumbai Indians bought her for Rs 1.6 crore in the WPL auction and shortly after that, she smashed 44 runs off 29 balls against Pakistan in the U-19 Asia Cup.

3) Vaishnavi Sharma

The left-arm orthodox bowler from Gwalior took 17 wickets in the U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup and created the record for most wickets in any edition of the tournament. She started the T20 World Cup with a five-wicket haul, including a hat-trick against Malaysia. After that, she picked up 1/3 against Sri Lanka, 3/15 against Bangladesh, 3/5 against Scotland, 3/23 against England and 2/23 in the final against South Africa.
