Top stars who can bag highest pay package in IPL 2025 retentions

New Delhi: Just a few more hours left before all 10 IPL franchises reveal their final list of retained players on October 31, Thursday. Each team is allowed to retain six players with a maximum limit of five capped players and two uncapped players.

As per the reports, The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is likely to retain MS Dhoni as an uncapped player after the BCCI brought back the ‘uncapped player rule’. According to the rule, any Indian cricketer who hasn’t played an international match in the last five years and is also not contracted with BCCI can be termed as an uncapped player.

Each franchise has a purse of INR 120 crore which is a 20% increase from last year. A team will lose INR 18 crore from their purse for the first retained player, INR 14 crore for the second retained player, INR 11 crore for the third retained player, INR 18 crore again for the fourth player, and INR 14 crore again for the fifth retained player.

A team will lose INR 4 crore from the purse for each uncapped Indian player retained. So if a team decides to retain five capped players, they will lose at least INR 75 crore from their purse of INR 120 crore. IPL franchises can decide the INR 75-crore retention pot as they want if they are retaining five capped players.
