New Delhi: England international right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold is reportedly set to leave Liverpool Football Club at the end of the current season. The 26-year-old, a product of the club’s academy who has been associated with the Reds for 20 years, will see his contract expire on June 30th. He is widely expected to join Spanish giants Real Madrid on a free transfer.
Alexander-Arnold shared the news on social media, stating, “After 20 years at Liverpool Football Club, now is the time for me to confirm that I will be leaving at the end of the season.” He added, “This is easily the hardest decision I have ever made in my life.” The midfielder said he has waited until now to announce his decision as the Reds secured their 20th top-flight title.
Alexander-Arnold’s contract situation was one of the key discussions at Anfield this summer. Unlike some teammates, Mohammed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, whose futures have been secured, the versatile defender will depart.
Expressing his deep connection to his boyhood club, he wrote, “This club has been my whole life – my whole world – for 20 years. But, I have never known anything else and this decision is about experiencing a new challenge, taking myself out of my comfort zone and pushing myself both professionally and personally.”
