Trent Boult becomes MI’s first buy at IPL 2025 mega auction, Hazlewood, Archer sold for Rs. 12.5 crore

New Delhi: As usual, the overseas pacers found themselves collecting a huge sum of money at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction, happening in Jeddah on Sunday. After the five sets of players were completed, the auction walked into the sixth set comprising fast bowlers who breathe fire with their searing pace. Trent Boult turned out to be the first buy of Mumbai Indians (MI) of the auction.

Nonetheless, the set started with Australian quick Josh Hazlewood who went under the hammer as Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) went after the Aussie bowler. In the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy first Test, he has taken five wickets. He entered with a base price of Rs. 2 crore but in no time, his bid went up to Rs. 10 crore. It was a bidding war between the teams as it breached the 10 mark and went up to Rs 12 crore.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Mumbai Indians also entered the bidding for the tall Aussie and he was eventually bagged by his former franchise RCB for a massive Rs. 12.5 crore. He played for them in the 2022, and 2023 seasons and will be returning to the Chinnaswamy!

South African pacer Anrich Nortje was also auctioned in the set and was surprisingly picked by the reigning champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for Rs. 6.5 crore which left them with a purse of Rs. 15.15 crore.

MI go after Archer but get Boult

Another star quick bowler Jofra Archer was also part of the set and MI and LSG did not hesitate at all to go after him. He entered the auction at a base price of Rs. 2 crore and the bid went up to Rs. 8 crore in no time. MI could only hope of reuniting with Archer as Rajasthan Royals (RR) entered the bidding and took it to Rs. 8.5 crore. LSG were out and MI took the bid forward but couldn’t beat RR’s bid of Rs. 12.5 crore.

Veteran New Zealand pacer Trent Boult was the final bowler from the set and both his past franchises RR and MI were up for him. It was a massive bidding war between the two teams which started from Rs. 2 crore. MI hadn’t bought a single player till then and RR exited the bid at Rs. 12.5 crore. That’s how MI got Boult back who was part of their great squads of 2019 and 2020.

The overseas pacers were in heavy demand as they collected huge sum of money at the IPL 2025 mega auction. The likes of Trent Boult, Josh Hazlewood, and Jofra Archer were all sold for Rs. 12.5 crore.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
