New Delhi: Young Indian pacer Akash Deep breathed fire to leave Bangladesh’s top order in shambles during their early stage of innings on Day 2. He picked up back-to-back wickets of opener Zakir Hasan and former captain Mominul Haque as the visors were reduced to 22 for 3 in the ninth over.
After India posted a competitive score of 376 riding on the century from Ravichandran Ashwin (113), the pacers put on the Tigers under pressure. Star speedster Jasprit Bumrah drew the first blood with the removal of Shadman Islam in the first over itself. Shadman shouldered his arms to leave Bumrah’s length ball, resulting in dislodging the bails behind.
Akash took his time but got his due with the wickets of Zakir and Mominul. An angled delivery from wide of the crease was enough to undone Zakir as his middle stump was uprooted. A nip-backer followed to bemuse Mominul on the defence.

Akash was on a hat-trick with the two scalps but veteran player Mushfiqur Rahim denied him the opportunity. He played it away from the body to poke the edge to the gully before a bounce. Mushfiqur beat the gully on the penultimate ball to hit his first boundary of the innings to get off the mark.
Ashwin, Jadeja powers India to 376
Indian all-rounders Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja bailed out the hosts from a tricky situation on Day 1. The duo put on 199 runs for the seventh wicket after India were reeling at 144 for 6 in the afternoon on Thursday. Though Jadeja missed his fifth Test hundred, Ashwin notched his sixth three-figure score in the red-ball format, and that too on his home crowd.
