Two triple centuries, highest-ever partnership: Goa batters script Ranji history

Povorim: Goa batters Snehal Kauthankar and Kashyap Bakle scripted history in the Ranji Trophy by smashing triple centuries and making a massive partnership record. Kauthankar and Bakle forged the highest-ever partnership in Ranji history and, in the process, broke a few individual records in the ongoing match against Arunachal Pradesh.

The Goa pair went on a rampage and pulverised the Arunachal bowlers in the Ranji Trophy Plate match at the Goa Cricket Association Academy in Porvorim.

Highest-ever Ranji partnership and second-highest in all First-Class cricket

Kauthankar and Bakle added an unbeaten 606 in 448 balls, which is the highest-ever partnership in the Ranji Trophy and the second-highest-ever partnership in all FC cricket. The Goa duo broke the record of Swapnil Gugale, and Ankit Bawne, who stitched a 594-run stand for Mumbai against Delhi in the 2016-17 Ranji season.

The record for the highest stand in FC cricket belongs to the Sri Lanka pair of Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardena, who slammed 624 runs.

Highest partnerships in the history of Ranji Trophy

606* – Kashyap Bakle and Snehal Kauthankar: Goa v Arunachal Pradesh (2024-25*)

594* – Swapnil Sugale and Ankeet Bawane: Maharashtra v Delhi (2016/17)

577 – Vijay Hazare and Gul Mohammad: Baroda v Holkar (1946-47)

Records galore

After Goa lost the openers, Ishaan Gadekar and Suyash Prabhudessai, the pair joined hands for a mammoth partnership and punished Arunachal Pradesh with their sensational batting effort. Both batters also completed their respective triple centuries as Kauthankar remained unbeaten on 314 and Bakle finished not out on 300. After the fall of the second wicket at 117, Goa didn’t lose any more wickets and declared the innings 727 for 2 in 92 overs.

Kauthankar (215 balls) and Bakle (269 balls) now hold the record of the 2nd and 3rd quickest triple centuries by Indians. This was only the second instance two players from the same team hit triple tons in the same innings of a Ranji match. Tamil Nadu pair WV Raman and Arjun Kripal Singh has scored 313 and 302 runs, respectively, against Goa in 1989.

Goa register a massive win

Courtesy of the gigantic partnership, Goa recorded a massive first-innings total of 727 – the second-highest score in the Plate division behind Meghalaya’s 826 for seven against Sikkim in 2018.

Goa took a huge 643-run lead in the first innings after Arjun Tendulkar-led bowling attack had bowled Arunachal Pradesh out for 84 on Day 1. Arunachal Pradesh could only muster 92 runs in the second innings as Goa wrapped up the game inside two days, winning the match by a massive margin of an innings and 551 runs.

Ranji Trophy: Records galore in the Plate Division match as Goa batters Snehal Kauthankar and Kashyap Bakle punished Arunachal Pradesh bowlers with a record-breaking performance.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
